Clean, clean, clean!

Not many people enjoy deep cleaning their houses but this is the time to do it. Clean your gutters outside to ensure there will be no clogging during the cold months. Also make sure to clean your fireplace and have a professional come in to clean your chimney. It’s important for them to check the damper to make sure it will prevent drafts.

Survey your heating system.

Conduct a walkthrough of all vents and ensure that they are not covered up or blocked by furniture or even dirt! While you’re at it, check for drafts by examining windows and door for cracks or openings. Seal them to prevent any heat from leaking out during the cold months.

Properly prepare all outside water systems.

Drain all pipes and hoses. Make sure to have sprinkler systems blown free of water to prevent major breakage underground. Lower water level in the swimming pool for the winter. This prevents expansion when the water freezes. Be sure to cover pools to keep out unwanted debris and animals.

Store summer things! Bring out the winter necessities.

As sad as it will be to see your patio furniture go, it is time for them to take a break in your storage space. They will last longer if they do not have to brave the outside elements. This includes patio furniture, umbrellas and children’s summer toys. Don’t forget to pull out your winter supplies! Make sure shovels, ice melt and other supplies are easy to get to for the coming cold months.

Don’t forget the inside!

Think of spring cleaning in the fall. Put away appliances not used for a week, wash windows and miscellaneous projects that have been eluding your to-do list!

By following a few simple guidelines, your home will be taken care of, and you will be prepared for the beauty of the fall and winter months! #ShorewestRealtors #ShorewestTips #Fall
