The bathroom — an oasis away from it all. Many of us dream of luxurious additions to our bathrooms including heated shower mirrors, skylights, and stain-resistant grout. Unfortunately, these changes can often come with a steep price tag. Here’s how the National Kitchen & Bath Association breaks down the budget for a typical bathroom remodel:

  • Labor: 20%
  • Cabinetry and hardware: 16%
  • Fixtures: 15%
  • Faucets and plumbing: 14%
  • Countertop: 7%
  • Floor: 9%
  • Doors and windows: 4%
  • Lighting and ventilation 5%
  • Walls and ceiling: 5%
  • Design fees: 4%
  • Other: 1%

For under $1000, your bathroom can get a much needed facelift using these helpful ideas. Cut down on the 20% costs of labor by doing some of these projects yourself.

  • Improve lighting and ventilation with a combination light and exhaust fan. One with a heat setting will keep the chills away when you step out of the shower.
  • Add a set of sconces on either side of the mirror or medicine cabinet.
  • Update towel bars, hooks, toothbrush and toilet paper holders and cabinet hardware.
  • Be adventurous with your paint or design. Use dark colors for an easy change that would feel over the top in other parts of the house.
  • Add a new mirror and faucet.
  • Switch out your old showerhead for a new one with multiple settings or invest in a waterfall shower for an extra-relaxing experience.
  • Add matching shelves for towels and toiletries that coordinate with your new bathroom.
  • Invest in something that feels luxurious — for less! Heated towel bars can run as low as $100 or less.

Use these easy tips to update your bathroom and look forward to relaxing in your new space.
